It is only compatible with "option-based donation forms," however current users can still use it.

How to Setup & Key Required

  • To use the Dwolla gateway, there are components required:
  • An active Dwolla account.
  • The GiveWP plugin installed and activated on your WordPress site.
  • The Dwolla Add-on purchased, installed, and activated.

After the add-on is enabled, you can select Dwolla from the list of available gateways in the GiveWP settings by going to the Payment Gateways section.

You must connect your Dwolla credentials after enabling it. To create your App Key and Secret, you must register an application in your Dwolla account (for either the Live or Test environment). Your Dwolla ID is also available in the profile settings of your account. Next, enter the App Key, Secret, and Dwolla ID in the relevant GiveWP areas in the Dwolla Settings section, then save the modifications.

Test vs Live environments

You can test transactions before going live with Dwolla's support for both a live (production) environment and a sandbox (test) environment. Additionally, GiveWP has a Test Mode that you can activate through the General Settings menu to make sure your integration functions correctly before taking actual donations. It is strongly advised to test in sandbox mode to ensure that all transaction processes and credentials are operating as intended.

Limitations and considerations

The Dwolla gateway's primary drawback is that GiveWP recurring donations are not supported. Because of this limitation, it is more appropriate for one-time than continuous donations. Additionally, new GiveWP customers should think about whether Dwolla is still a good option in their area or look into other supported gateways because the add-on is no longer accessible to them. Before switching to live transactions, thorough testing in the sandbox environment is also highly recommended.
